Smart CD Catalog is a powerful application for use
Smart CD Catalog is a powerful application for users who want to keep track of their file locations. It can create catalogs from CDs, DVDs, floppy disks, from HDD and other drives. The interface is user-friendly, all the important buttons being situated on the top tool bar, for a quick access.
There are many options available within this program. You can add catalogs and select a category for them, delete, add comments and maintain a list with the borrowed or lent CDs/DVDs mentioning the date you borrowed/lent the discs. You can organize your catalogs by sorting files, folders and disks by any parameter, such as name, size, date, type, etc. It also shows detailed information about each file or folder and it can generate statistics and detailed reports, that can be exported in html and CSV format.
What I like most about this program is the predefined categories that you can easily assign to a new created catalog. You have the option of renaming, adding new categories or deleting the existing ones.
I also like that you can create a contact list with the persons you borrowed discs from or lent it to, and that you can keep the history of these actions.
Besides creating a catalog database, this program integrates a powerful search engine that can scan for discs, files or folders, selecting one or many criteria, or you can even use wildcard characters.
Pluses: A powerful search engine that returns quick results.
Drawbacks / flaws: It cannot read the description from audio CDs, and also cannot read in archived files and it doesn't have a wizard that checks for updates like Where Is It?.
In conclusion: This program is easier to use and it has friendlier interface than Where Is It?, but it isn't as versatile as the last one.
